The Bare Necessities.
With only 15 days left until I leave for Spain, I am really starting to feel a mix of emotions. I am anxious and excited to begin this new chapter in my college career at the University of Granada, but I am going to miss Lynchburg so much! I feel so lucky to have this opportunity and have the full support of my family, friends, teachers and other students.
One huge task left to complete prior to leaving is packing. Normally when I need to pack for college I fill up the whole car with practically everything I own. Traveling via air means that I need to prioritize what comes with me (most airlines allow you one checked bag and your carry on items, while second checked bags will cost you.) 16 weeks in Spain, which will include change in season. This should be fun.
Let's start with my necessities:

Traveling via air means that I need to prioritize what comes with me (most airlines allow you one checked bag and your carry on items, while second checked bags will cost you.) 16 weeks in Spain, which will include change in season. This should be fun.
Let's start with my necessities:
- My laptop! This acts as my main communication device to my parents since we love to Skype.
- A GSM unlocked cellphone. I ordered the Blu Zoey from Walmart.com for only $19. Once in Spain I will be able to purchase a Sim card to call and text fellow Sol students, and my host family.
- Camera. I love taking pictures and sharing my travels with friends and family.
- A watch. Last time I was in Spain I noticed that watches are a staple.
- Adapter/converter. Helloooo different sockets. Duh.
- Vitamins. Staying healthy is hard as it is, so living in a new environment calls for extra care.
- Pictures of family and friends and my stuffed moose. These are things to make my new room feel like home.
- Toothpaste and face wash. I am quite particular about what products I use, so for my own comfort I will bring these.
Clothing necessities:
- Jeans. Jeans are my always my pant of choice.
- Rain jacket. This will double as a light jacket as the weather changes.
- Sneakers. Exercise is a must!
- Plain t-shirts and tank tops. Solid color shirts go with everything and are always easy to throw on.
- Scarfs. To conceal the fact that you've been wearing the same plain tshirt for a week.
- Leopard flats. Comfy for walking AND they are super cute.
- Sweaters. I get cold pretty easily, so this is super important as I will likely be walking everywhere up until December 19.
- A few dressy tops. Since I am participating in an internship, I may need these.
- A couple dresses. Nice dinner? Going out? All set!
This is just an overview of the many things I will be bringing with me, but I thought I would share what I think is needed for travel and living abroad.
Some upcoming topics I will be writing about are: how to survive a long plane ride and layovers, banking abroad, my host family and home. I am open to suggestions for topics!
