I'm Back!
Hey everyone!
To start: I have bounced around between blogs, facebook, instagram, twitter and more, for years now. I wanted to update my website and have finally decided to stick with this format.
The title of this blog, “Girl Made In Utica // Citizen of The World” should give you some idea of where this is going.
I was born in Utica, New York, spent the first 18 years of my life here, moved to Lynchburg, Virginia for college, then recently returned home. I am back living with my parents, and actually really enjoying it.
My new job, International Admissions Counselor at Mohawk Valley Community College, keeps me busy during the days. Nights and weekends are spent exploring all of the new things that Utica has to offer. I was hesitant about moving back to Central New York, but have been pleasantly surprised by growth, optimism, more young professionals staying local, and new, upbeat businesses and events.
I hope to get more plugged in to some groups and activities in the area within the next few months. Made in Utica is a great organization which connects the people of Utica to news, updates, events, and more (via their website, madeinutica.com, their instagram account, and the hashtag #madeinutica. This is partially where I got the idea for my new blog name.
I have to credit Utica for shaping a lot of my interests and goals. In high school I completed an internship at the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, which sparked my love of all things international. In college I studied International Relations and Spanish, and never though that I could find something in my job field here in Utica. However, as I mentioned, I am now the International Admissions Counselor at Mohawk Valley Community College. I will be recruiting overseas, utilizing social media to attract potential students, and working here in Utica to admit students, and aid them in their orientation process.
This is where my blog will come in handy: bridging the gap between my life in Utica and the rest of the world. I will write about personal adventures as well as work related travels and experiences.
I strive to be a responsible, curious, open-minded, and accepting Citizen of the World. Follow me as I find what this world has to offer.
